I’m having the thing where I don’t feel comfortable in my body (as in even less than usual) and I don’t like dressing it so I’m wearing the blandest loose clothes and feeling like poo when I see my reflection anywhere. I’m gonna wear a dress tomorrow and lipstick and buy another £5 skater dress from Primark as a treat (had far too many ‘treats’ recently though). Also I have a meeting with my tutor tomorrow about my poor attendance and a terrifying presentation on Thursday then I go home for Christmas (yay) but I only have two days of work before Christmas Day (nay). And my grandma is in hospital cos she fell out of bed and broke her hip which isn’t upsetting me too much now cos I’m away from the situation and I know she’s safe but going home and seeing her not being able to walk properly and possibly not recognising me at all is gonna be hard. I’m just massively stressed and have had tears in my eyes pretty much all day and I need a break.
Hey i saw your tag on that Tina fey gif and I was wondering what you meant about her feminism being problematic? Im a fan of hers but I don't know much about her views on feminism (other than that she considers herself a feminist)
If you read her autobiography/watch her interviews she comes off as a human embodiment of this picture
and while she does occasionally say some things that are definitely spot on, her constant shaming of other women’s bodies and lifestyles combined with her offensive jokes makes her the exact opposite of a feminist icon
Rape isn’t about uncontrollable sexual desire. You only have to listen in on a Call of Duty game to see that. When that kid crows, “I raped you!”, he’s not calling the other guy sexy; he’s saying he defeated him, dominated him, humiliated him. That’s what rape is about, and that should scare you.
“When confidence relies on beauty, bad days for the body become bad days for the mind. Girls’ sense of worth crumbles, leaving them insecure and ignorant as to how to handle it; emphasizing beauty as a requirement for self-love means that the absence of beauty must lead to an absence of love. Teaching girls how to avoid these days is impossible, teach them to handle these days. Teach girls that they are funny, smart, engaging, compassionate, kind, insightful and valuable, and then figure out a better way to teach them that, if they want to, they can feel beautiful, too.”—Stop Telling Me I Am Beautiful, Suzanne (via eyebrowgurl)
“I love tattooed women, maybe because they are uncontrollable, they are themselves to the point of drawing symbols of their power on their skin. Talk about owning your own body, being in your body, claiming yourself. I love it. When the world is in an uproar over whether women should have a choice or not when it comes to their own bodies, being tattooed is one of the most visible choices of all.”—Margaret Cho (via onehundreddollars)
jeez i would love to order that thing online, but i don’t know what size to order it in because women’s clothing sizes are determined by the alignments of the planets in relation to the fuck you galaxy
“FEELING: The one where new angles of light from the shortening day make familiar streets look alien, foliage glowing in unearthly hues or disappearing to show hidden corners and carvings on buildings you ought to know, and the gauze of light unfurls along the facades, like a scroll covered in symbols you can’t quite read, and you can feel something bubble up under your breastbone like a hiccup and you think what’s inside the bubble might be happiness but you never know because it never bursts.
HOW TO EAT IT: Go out and get hot cider. Bring a flask.”—A Guide to Eating Very Particular Feelings, Jess Zimmerman (via courtbouillon)
One time I wrote a list of the Reasons Why I Love You in red ink on white receipt paper and I was going to give it to you but then we drank vodka and ate maraschino cherries on your kitchen floor and you told me something about timing and I recited one of my poems in hopes that you’d think I was deep and stop asking me why why why are you so sad.
One time you told me you loved girls who always smiled so I stitched my lips into a grin and as I sat there bleeding on the kitchen floor I wrote with red ink on dirty tile a list of the Reasons Why Things Happen in hopes that you’d come back and take it back and take me back and clean up all the broken glass.
Why why why I’m so sad is because instead of filling myself up I fill you up and it leaves me dry and angry and cracked on your kitchen floor with maraschino cherry juice running sticky down my fingers and there’s not enough ink in the world to say what I need to say.
so you’re telling me there’s an alien who regenerates into a completely random form, that he cannot control or determine himself, and who understandably could take millions of different appearances, but who all 13 times just turned into a different skinny white guy
so both tom daley and maria bello have announced, in the past 24 hours, that they are in queer relationships and have been in straight relationships in the past, without actually labeling themselves as gay, but every headline is TOM DALEY COMES OUT AS GAY and MARIA BELLO IS A LESBIAN
dear dudes “6 pack abs and big biceps” is not a fucking “beauty standard” how many men who are conventionally attractive in movies/magazines do u see with a bodybuilder body type. maybe like 1 in 20. how many women in movies and magazines are underweight and have perfect makeup and skin? 19/20 and those who dont are used as gag characters. shut up and quit whining about misandry when you dont even know what a beauty standard really is
“Stevie Nicks surrounds herself with girls. Wherever she goes, she brings girls. “I can’t imagine you in a bathing suit,” someone says in an interview for Rolling Stone, when Stevie says she likes to play in the pool in her backyard. “Yeah, well, you never will,” Stevie says. “And there is never — ever — a man in the backyard. If there is, he is banished to the front of the house.” Men don’t get to look at Stevie Nicks unless Stevie Nicks wants men to look at Stevie Nicks.”—Stevie Nicks is a queen, a witch, a dragon; she’s in control. how come robert pattinson can be a fucking miserable bastard (and look like a bug) but kristen stewart dares to have a neutral resting face and suddenly she is a miserable bitch who has no personality and needs to smile oh wait i know why
“On any given day, the average American teenager spends more than 7.5 hours online and uses his or her cellphone 60 times. While these numbers strike fear in the hearts of parents and crotchety novelists lamenting the loss of a more meaningful existence, there are some real benefits to a technology-saturated life: Young people spend far more time consuming new information, honing verbal concision, and interacting with a diverse audience than they have at any point in history.”—Does social media make us smarter? | The Week (via unionmetrics)
“According to their survey, men hate when women wear beanies, floppy hats, hair bows, open-side shirts, oversize sweaters, shoulder pads, peplums, bandeau bikinis (“they just make your shoulders look like a linebacker”), bright lipstick, heavy eye makeup, fake nails, bangles, pointy-toed shoes, wedge sneakers, ultra-high heels, fold-over ankle boots (“it looks like the shoes have foreskins”), high-waisted jeans, high-waisted shorts, high-waisted skirts (“it lacks a certain degree of subtlety”), pantsuits (“you’re a woman, not a man”), drop-crotch pants (“really, any loose fitting pants,) and mullet dresses (“I just don’t get it — where’s the fucking party??? You are covering the back!”). The question is how to wear all of these things at once.”—How to Dress So Basic Bros Leave You Alone - The Cut (via heylabodega)
“…more than 80% of 10-year-old girls are afraid of being fat; 60% of girls compare themselves to fashion models; body satisfaction hits rock bottom between the ages of 12 and 15; and watching just 30 minutes of television and advertising can impact how a girl feels about her body.”—via Huffington Post (via plannedparenthood)
Why are “naturally thin” and “born with a fast metabolism” totally acceptable explanations for weight, but “naturally fat” and “born with a slow metabolism” seen as “excuses” for “laziness/irresponsibility/greediness”?
